Consult Corner

Faculty & staff strategies for addressing student mental health & wellness

Do you find yourself worried about a particular student’s wellbeing? Do you wonder how you might signal to your class that you’re supportive of their mental health? Do you want to create a lab environment supportive of student employee mental health? Come to Consult Corner, a virtual new offering from OSA, to discuss these and other student mental health related questions and topics with peers and a student mental health expert facilitator. 

How It Works

No sign up or registration required. Facilitators are offering a wide range of times and dates this semester, so find a time that works for you on the Fall 2025 Consult Corner schedule. Once you've chosen a day and time,  drop in accordingly using the unique Zoom link for that week.

Facilitator Bios

Laura Dupont-Jarrett, Ph.D., L.P. (she/her) 

Laura is Student Mental Health Strategist & Educator for Student Affairs, providing training, guidance, and resources regarding student mental health and wellness for campus faculty and staff. She’s also Mental Health Abroad Strategist & Educator for the Global Programs & Strategy Alliance, providing similar services and resources for staff, faculty, and onsite staff regarding student mental health and wellness abroad. She’s a licensed psychologist who has worked in higher education over 20 years as an academic advisor, mental health counselor, instructor, trainer, and administrator. She received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Counseling & Student Personnel Psychology; and her B.A. in Psychology and French.

Rachel Ross-Farmer, M.S. (she/her)

Rachel serves as the Director of Care & Student Advocate Services in the Office for Student Affairs. Rachel oversees Care Team and Student Advocate Services, two student-facing services that support students experiencing distress or crisis. Rachel chairs the Behavioral Consultation Team, which is a multidisciplinary group of staff who consult on a weekly basis to create a collaborative approach to student care & wellbeing. Rachel has a background in student conduct; residence life; restorative justice; diversity education & programming; and mental health. Rachel received a Bachelor's degree in Spanish, with minors in Chemistry & Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and a Master's degree in Counselor Education with an emphasis in Student Affairs from Mississippi State University. Rachel cares deeply about people, reducing stigma and barriers to accessing mental health support, promoting self-advocacy and self-growth, and experiencing joy as an act of rebellion. When not working with students, Rachel enjoys raising her two young kids, watching trashy reality TV, and drinking copious amounts of coffee.

Consult Corner is for faculty, staff, and instructors at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

Will sessions be recorded? 

No. These discussions will not be recorded, so as to facilitate open and candid conversations. Consultations will be held in a private Zoom space. 

Where are consultations held? 

Consultations are virtual and will be held on Zoom.
