Boynton Pharmacy Staff and Curbside Runners
Boynton Health
Nominated by: Pepper Meyer
Value Demonstrated by Employees: Resiliency

“The Boynton Health Pharmacy team has stayed strong while continuing to serve our University Community since the beginning of this pandemic. In addition to being resilient, the Pharmacy team has been very adaptable as we have completely transformed our delivery of medications to our patients to curbside pickup, vastly increased our mailing capacity, and adjusted our pharmacist consultations from in person to over-the-phone. Although a lot of the workflow changes we have made are time-intensive (such as collecting all payments before patients arrive to limit contact), the pharmacy staff has been dedicated to the wellbeing of our community's health and has taken all of the changes in stride. A special shout-out to all of the non-pharmacy Boynton staff who have shared their time with us running prescriptions out to our patients' curbside. Thank you for completing our team!”

Liz Cadwell
Fraternity and Sorority Life
Nominated by: James Ehrmann
Value Demonstrated by Employee: Student Centeredness

“Liz continues to actively seek student feedback, provide avenues for student engagement and be present for students to help navigate through an ever-changing landscape. Specifically, she helped transition our Emerging Greek Leaders Program into a virtual platform mid-way through the semester and had over 20 students complete the program. She's also spending a tremendous amount of time meeting individually with the Vice President of Recruitment for the Panhellenic Council to talk through different scenarios for fall recruitment. She has been consistent, reassuring and ever-optimistic!”

David Hellstrom
Leadership Minor
Nominated by: Christine VeLure Roholt
Value Demonstrated by Employee: Student Centeredness

“When I think of teaching as an art, as a craft, I think of David. It is not just because students consistently rave about his teaching and how much they learn when they are part of his class communities. David centers the learning, the work, on students, and helps individualize that for every student in his class and his advisees. He challenges and supports students to stretch their skills beyond the classroom so they effect change and can successfully navigate challenging and complex situations in their work, living, and internships. He will always make time to have a conversation, sit and listen deeply, and give time, energy and make connections to services to support students' development and well being.

Beyond this, David often is found facilitating sessions for campus partners, other units' staff or students, connecting with alumni, or co-creating our 2020 virtual graduation to celebrate students completing the minor. He wears many shoes (including Pooh shoes and UMN slippers) in his work at the Leadership Minor, but they are all grounded in supporting the success of students!”

Sierra Judy
Student Unions & Activities
Nominated by: Sean Smallwood
Value Demonstrated by Employee: Collaboration

“Sierra has been working as the Assistant Project Manager for the Presence Implementation team. This large project requires a lot of collaboration and Sierra has demonstrated an unique ability to bring stakeholders together to coalesce around this new engagement platform. I personally have appreciated her leadership skills when it comes to working on the Data team (a subcommittee of the larger implementation team) because she is able to bridge the work that technical folks are doing (folks from ASR, OIT, etc.) with those of us who are maybe not as technically minded. Sierra's work is so appreciated and deserves recognition because it will have a positive impact on our ability to engage students in the future.”

“Amanda successfully balanced the challenging roles of a Student Advocate and a 2nd year Law Student during this period of quarantine. Amanda’s positivity is infectious and her ability to be optimistic in a challenging and difficult situation has significantly benefited the students she works with. Amanda’s done an excellent job of logically explaining difficult ideas and situations to students, staff and faculty. Amanda goes out of her way to fully listen to students, to meet them where they are at, and to advocate for them in the way they need. Amanda’s ability to share her knowledge and experience with her Law coursework proves extremely beneficial to our office and to our work. We are grateful to have Amanda as a staff member!”

Nick Mabee
Leadership Minor
Nominated by: Christine VeLure Roholt
Value Demonstrated by Employee: Student Centeredness

“Nick Mabee is often found behind the scenes supporting our staff, instructors, and students with their technology challenges. Recently Nick took on creating our first ever virtual celebration honoring our Leadership Minor graduates. While he remained behind the scenes in the production of the event, he offered a beautiful platform for each of the 150 graduates to shine on the virtual stage. This allowed our students to center their experience in celebration with friends and families, while also creating a lasting (and available on YouTube) memory.”

Brittany Ottum
Student Unions and Activities
Nominated by: Jason Hancock
Value Demonstrated by Employee: Collaboration

“With a very short turnaround time, Brittany was asked to produce video tours of Coffman Memorial Union and the St. Paul Student Center in order to support the SUA Feasibility Study since in-person tours for firms were not possible. She was sent very large video files that had to be condensed, edited, and formatted, all within about 48 hours. Given her collaboration on this task, the videos were produced under the deadline and are available for viewing by firms bidding on the RFP. Brittany's coordination of the videos helped ensure that the bids placed by firms will be accurate and complete. The staff from University Services, who are managing the RFP, gave high praise for the videos as well.”

With the need to swiftly move all services to a virtual format, Jane really didn't miss a beat, and quickly adapted her work to fit our current times. In this past 2 months (and across multiple time zones), she has coordinated, conducted, and streamed 17 Facebook live video interviews with UMN International Alumni to share with our students.
