To find reduced-cost apartments open to Pell Grant recipients, go to Listings, click on "More Filters," and click the "Pell Grant Recipient/Income Adjusted Rental" button. You will need to contact the property directly to apply for this program.

Energy Assistance Program

Federal program that helps pay energy bills for eligible Minnesota renters and homeowners. 

Note: Not available to international students. 

Student Legal Service (SLS)

Tenant rights services include lease reviews and advocacy related to repairs, security deposits, and evictions.

Note: Not available to students who do not pay the Student Services Fee.

HOME Line

HOME Line provides free and low-cost legal, organizing, education, and advocacy services to help tenants solve rental housing problems.

Note: An alternative to Student Legal Service for students who don't pay the Student Services Fee.

Aurora Center

For emergency housing needs related to relationship violence, the Aurora Center can help students understand and navigate their options.

Universal Transit Pass & Metro Mobility

Students who pay the Transportation Fee have unlimited access to the regional transit system in the Twin Cities metro area. Transit pass holders can opt-in to Metro Mobility, a shared-ride public transportation service for certified riders who cannot use regular fixed-route buses due to a disability or health concern.

Note: Students not paying the Transportation Fee can opt-in to the program each semester.

TAP (Transit Access Program)

Discounted rides through Metro Transit for students enrolled in a state-funded income-based program like SNAP or MNSURE.

Note: Not available for international students.

Gopher Bikes

Rent a bike for the semester.

Free jump-starts and air for flat tires for all vehicles parked legally at UMN meters, surface lots, ramps, and garages; available weekdays.

Free inspections and low-cost car repairs for low-income families in Minnesota.

Financial assistance to help cover the cost of vehicle repairs for eligible adults and families.
